פרשת השבוע

פרשת שלח
1.Review the main story lines of Parshat Shelach

2. Watch G-dcast video

3. Small Groups: Choose one of the four groups to discuss the parsha in a small group or recreate something from it.

Group 1, at the round table: Why did Bnei Yisrael need to send spies in to the land of Israel? Wasn't it promised to us by Hashem? Surely if it was promised by G-d it must be just right...so what are the spies for? Write your thoughts out. After being approved it can be a blog post.

Group 2, in the library: Moshe gives directions to the spies for how to get into the land. He tells Yehoshua  in פרק יג-פסוק טז to "Go up this way by the Negev('south'), and go up into the high land."

Go up by the Negev (13:17)
That was the gross part of the land. Such is the manner of merchants: first they show the lesser-quality merchandise, and then they show the prime merchandise.
(Rashi; Midrash Tanchuma)

What does this mean? Why would this be the direction to enter the land to spy on? Type your answer out. After approved it can be a blog post.

Group 3 at the back tables: Create a picture scene of the spies. Use these excerpts from the Parsha to create your scene. Choose one or split up and each person can create one picture.

1. And they came to the wadi of Eshkol, and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they carried on a pole, by twos; and they brought of the pomegranates, and the figs...

       2. They show the people the magnificent fruits they brought, and say:
"We came to the land where you did send us, and indeed it flows with milk and honey; and this is its fruit.

3. "But the people that dwell in the land are strong, and the cities are fortified, and very great; and moreover we saw the giants there.

Group 4 at the desks: Retell the scenes of the spies. You can write a play, create a voice thread, or make a prezi. It can be of the whole story or just part of it. It should be based on the facts from the Torah.  Use this English translation as a guide
