Assignment Directions and Guidelines

Write and perform a short play about the story of Ehud Ben Gerah. Follow the guidelines below

1.    One person is you group will be the Scribe. He or she will be responsible for writing or typing your script out.

2.    Every person must have a role in the play as one of these people: Narrator, Ehud Ben Gerah, Melech Eglon, Bnei Yisrael, Eglon’s guards

3.    You play must include the following key parts in your play:

-Bnei Yisrael leave G-d to worship idols

-Moab takes over Bnei Yisrael led Melech Eglon

-Bnei Yisrael call out to G-d and G-d sends Ehud Ben Gerah, the left hander, as a shofet

-Ehud plans to take an offering to Eglon. In preparation, Ehud makes a double edged sword that he hides on his right side under his cloak.

-Ehud visit Eglon and offers his offering

-Ehud tells Eglon his has a secret to tell him

-Eglon sends everyone out saying “הס”

-Ehud stabs Eglon in the belly, leaving his sword in his stomach, his guts spill out over his belly and Ehud runs away. Include this line from the text:

-The guards come in to find Eglon dead

-Ehud blows the shofar on Har Efraim and Bnei Yisrael defear Moab and live peacefully.

4. You may make the following props for your play:

          -Double edged sword

          -Something to look like guts

          -Shofar

          -Other props must be approved by Ms. Basseri
