Trimester 3 Reflection

This trimester was fun I liked art because we did a puppet thing to give to an orphanage. I also liked inquiry because we had to research a subject and then make a prezi on it. If you want to see mine just go to the blog. I also liked the timelines of the american revolution. It was where we had to do a timeline about the whole revolution. That one is also on the blog.

One of the things I could have done better on was the homework. My goal for next year is to do all my homework so I will get a good grade and learn more. I also hope to finish all my projects on time like in 5th grade.

I can't wait for the summer. It's gonna be so much fun. I also can't wait for middle school. I'm especially excited about having a lot of different classes and teachers.

Soccer on the Island

There was once a group of boys who lived on a village for fisherman and it was in the country of Thailand.

The kids loved watching soccer but they never played it.

They decided to build a platform  on the water but but it was not well done. There was nails sticking out and a lot of kids fell into the water.

They saw a flyer for a tournament on the mainland so they decided to join but none of the grownups thought they would be any good.

They practiced a lot and right before they got on the boat to go to the mainland an adult gave them uniforms, cleats, socks, shinguard's and shorts so they could play.

THE TOURNAMENT

They won their first game game 2-0 and noticed they were better than they thought they were.

The day of the semifinals it was raining they were playing bad and there was water in their shoes. By the time it was halftime they were down 2-0.

They decided to take off their shoes. They were very light on their feet and could easily get passed their defenders. They got 2 easy goals and they were tied.

The other team started playing better defense after that. They scored a goal in the last minute and Pawnee F.C. lost but it was a good game.

Everyone was proud about about how good they did and that was how Pawnee F.C. started.

Math Night

For Math Night we did 3 things but the blue group did something else but most of us aren't in the blue group including me. We did a fruit salad station were we gave people a sheet and you could have sixteen pieces of fruit you could have and you could pick what you want. We also did a connect three game but with fractions and yo had to find the equivalent fraction to the place. The last thing we did was used the sharp board and played fraction games on it.

I really liked math night I like the part were you can win prizes and you get tickets by playing games. I also like that each class even the ECEC did something.

Did you go to math nigh? If you did did you like it ? Why?

Digital Passport

I learned a lot from digital passport. An example, I learned not to put stuff on the internet that I don't want everybody to see. I also learned to not put personal stuff on the internet like my email address or my phone number. I also learned not to text while I'm doing something else.

Have you used digital passport? If yes did you learn from It?

Independence

In my class we are doing a simulation of the american revolution. My name in it is Johnathan Macklentosh and I am a patriot. At first I was a Neutralist and that means I couldn't decide which side I wanted to be on. I love that we have the right to pick which side we want to be on.

I am a physically poured man and I am a blacksmith I have patriot, loyalist and Neutralist customers and I love to talk with them. what is hard for me is picking sides and doing the work. But I enjoy thinking about it and it seems as if I am there.

The Culper Spy Ring

In 1777 George Washington and his army were fighting for independence. In the 13 colonies you couldn't tell who was a villager or who was a spy. The Culper spy rings main achievement was getting all the notes to George Washington in secret and they helped us win the war. They used a secret
code and they used invisible ink in order to get passed the British. According to Upon Secrecy by Selene Castrovilla the Culper Spy ring gave many letters to General Washington. This group was an amazing part of history. They should be remembered for many years to come.

Narrative self reflection

In my narrative I think I did a pretty good job. I enjoyed looking into my dog Kayle and thinking about all the fun times we have had. I think I did good at narration and editing my narrative.

I think I had a hard time putting in dialogue and  putting in transition words. I did not really enjoy putting it into words and paragraphs.

Literary self reflection

In my literary essay I enjoyed re-looking into into Because of Winn-Dixie because I think that it is a really good book. I also enjoyed thinking about Winn-Dixie and Opal and how they live. I think that my strengths were looking into the characters and how they feel.

I think that putting everything into words and into my essay from my head was hard for me. I didn't enjoy the writing part so much and I will work on that the next writing assignment we have.

Some People Are Never Loved

Some people are never loved. For example, Winn-Dixie was a stray so he may have never been loved. And other than the preacher Opal may have never been loved. Some homeless people may have never been loved or want to be talked to like a stray. In the story Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate DiCamillo Opal and Winn-Dixie help each other live a better life.

Winn-Dixie changed Opals life. For instance, Winn-Dixie helped Opal find friends by smiling and acting good. Also, she was all filled up by her friends that Winn-Dixie helped make. And in the end Opal was happy because she knew about her mom and now she had Win-Dixie. I think the author wrote this because Winn-Dixie acts like a mom to her. For instance, When Opal found Winn-Dixie it was kind of like when she found her mom in her thoughts because they were both huge parts of her life. Winn-Dixie was like a mom to her because he comforted her and played with her like a mom.
Opal changed Winn-Dixie’s life. First off, she gave him food, water and love. Another thing, she gave him a bath and brushed his hair and let his fur grow out so he didn’t have bald spots. Again, she would do anything for him, she even worked all day for him to get the collar both Opal and Winn-Dixie loved.

I think Opal Winn-Dixie and Littmus are alike. Litmus is Mrs. Franny Block’s grandpa. He had a lot of familuy and then they all died in the civil war except for him. After that he made a candy company called Littmus Lozenge and it was a sweet and sour candy like there are sweet times in life and sour times in life. Littmus, Winn-Dixie and Opal are alike because they all started out with family and then they end up with one or none. Also, Opals mom left her, Winn-Dixie was a stray and all of Litmus’s family died in the war. I think the author put this in because Winn-Dixie and Opal both had a sweet and sour life. Opals life is sweet because she finds Winn-Dixie and she finds friends. Her life is sour because her mom leaves her and she has to move a lot. Winn-Dixie has a sweet life because he finds Opal. He has for some time. Sour life because he was a stray dog.

Don’t judge someone by how they look. For example, when you are the new kid you are usually judged by how you look or act. The Dubery boys judged Opal by how she acts. They thought she was gullible enough to believe that Gloria Dump was a witch. Have you ever been treated by how you look or act? Why

Because of Kayle

Because of Kayle
My dog Kayle is an Airedale Terrier and is black and tan. She is around 4 years old and really cute. She is such a good dog and a really good companion, she can make anyone feel good.

A couple of times my dad would say “I really want you guys to get a dog”.

When my dad stated that we were going to get a dog all my older brothers who didn’t like the idea of getting a dog got kind of mad.

They would say “why are we getting a dog”?

Or “this is so dumb”.

But my dad didn’t care, because he had a dog when he was a kid and he wanted us to also. So he looked up a breeder and we got the same type of dog that he had when he was a kid.

My grandpa was here and it was summer when we got the dog and so he went with my dad to get her.

I remember my dad saying “great you’re here let’s get the dog “.

We decided to name her Kayle a couple of nights before so that was going to be her name. The breeder lived in Calgary so they met up in Idaho somewhere to get her. The trip took a long time so they stayed somewhere at night.

My dad got home really late so I was already in bed. But I heard a conversation with my mom and dad and this is what I heard.

“Wow he’s so cute” said my mom.

My dad then said “it’s a girl”.

I woke up and went downstairs to see Kayle.

But before I got downstairs I asked “is she cute”

But I didn’t get an answer. It was the first day of Kol Rena so I had to leave early. When I got home to notice her lying on the couch and I started to pet her and she was so cute and tiny and that’s when it all changed.

A couple of days after that I started to like her. I don’t think I liked her because she didn’t look that nice when we got her.

I then said “I don’t think she is going to be a good dog”. But I soon learned I was wrong.

Now I play with her and go on walks with her and. She is she is so fun so loveable just like Winn-Dixie.

Every new year’s eve and any other time there is fireworks or thunder she goes upstairs to hide, or goes under a bed because she is so scared it is really funny I always laugh.

Once we went on a trip to Leavenworth for a 3 day weekend.

I said “I can’t wait it is going to be so fun with all the snow and the German style buildings”.

We took Kayle with us, it was like paradise for her.

I said “this is so fun we should do this more often”.

It was snowing and she took so many walks and we let her out to play with the other dogs. It was kind of like where she was born in Calgary because it snows a lot there.

Around a year later I was at my sister’s soccer game and it was the last game so after that there was a pizza party. Kayle was there running around playing with us until the game was over.

I remember saying “she’s so happy and this is really fun”.

Before the game was over we were having a delightful time until Kayle took her head and knocked my jaw with it and I couldn’t eat for a long time and my jaw was hurting for a long time.

Moral Of the Story

I read The Kid Who Only Hit Home Runs. It is about a kid who is not that good at baseball and gets help from someone he doesn't know. He practices and he gets really good. Almost every time he gets up to bat he hits  homer.

I think the moral of the story is that if you practice a lot you can get better. And if you stop practicing you can lose your skill . I think if you practice you can get better at anything you do. I think this because in the story the kid practiced and practiced and he got better at baseball.

Littmus Lozenge

I agree with Franny because depending on the time in life you have times that are good and times that are not so good. It's like a Littmus Lozenge because life might start out good and end sour or the other way around.

Littmus Lozenges were a candy that had a secret ingredient that made it happy and sad or sweet and sour. Littmus was Franny's grandfather who went to war and when he came back all of his relatives had died. So he decided to start a candy company and the sadness was because his relatives died. It was a very big company a long time ago and it was sad that it had to close down.

Winn-dixie

Opal and her dad don't have a good relationship at the beginning of the book. As Opal said the Preacher is like a turtle in a shell and he won't come out. Also at the beginning of the book he did not like the idea of a dog but at the end of the book he was looking for him and calling his name.

At the end of the book Opal and the Preacher have a much better relationship. Throughout the book you can tell that the preacher started paying more attention to her like he is coming out of his shell. One example is when the preacher decided to come to the party. I think the preacher worked hard on spending more time with Winn-Dixie.

Have you read Because of Winn-Dixie? If you have did you like it?

Article Self Reflection

I think I did well on my environmental article because I used a lot of evidence. I  also think I proved my point. I also think I did a good bibliography.

I will try to do better on spelling because I used a lot of spell check. I also think I need work on being really specific.

Oil, Litter and Chemicals By Avi Kintzer

A long time ago we had a beautiful ocean with fish swimming around. Now we have a polluted ocean with a lot of dead animals and plants. People throw plastic bottles and cans in the water and it is not healthy for the water or the animals in the water. How can we get back the ocean we used to have?

Litter is a very big problem in Puget Sound. A whale washed up on the beach had 20 plastic bags in it. This happened because people just throw junk into the ocean. Birds are feeding their chicks plastic bags because it looks like food for them and people don’t notice this is happening. Many animals have been eating plastic stuff witch kill them and people have to stop.

Scientists say the plastic will never biodegrade. Small pieces of plastic can absorb toxic pollutants. Scientists have found that fish are ingesting these when they eat the plastic. There is a good chance that we also ingest these toxins when we eat fish. In some places nearly 80 % of the garbage they found was plastic. “The problem of the ocean trash is totally preventable” says spokesman Tom McCann. He says “it’s something we can all solve ourselves. One trash pile is about the size of Texas.

Chemicals can kill animals and plants also. About 140,000 pounds of toxic chemicals get into Puget Sound each day. About 75% of the chemicals are carried off by storm water. Harbor seals in the Sound are 7 times more contaminated in pursuit in toxic known as Psbs than those living in the strait of Georgia witch goes on to the Sound.

Many things have an effect in Puget Sound for example, litter chemicals and oil. In 549 streams, lakes and rivers across Puget ‘sound are impaired by bad quality water.  When people use pestisides it washes out with the rain and goes to the storm drain and gets into Puget Sound. When your dog goes to the bathroom and you don’t pick it up it gets washed into Puget Sound and kills the animals that live there.

What would happen if everybody stopped throwing things in the ocean?  There is 14 million pounds of toxic chemicals that go into Puget Sound each year.  We should try to stop it by going to a car wash, picking up your dog’s waste and not just dumping your stuff down our storm drains.
