Book Buddies

Book buddies is where we teach or help the kindergartens to read.We have book buddies  every Wednesday.  It is really fun. We change book buddies every week I have had Eden,Yosaif, and Talyah.

 I like book buddies because it is really fun to watch them progress. It is also really fun to listen tot them read to you. It is also really fun to read to them and just spend time with your favorite class. I also love it when they sound out the letter and they list all the letters in the alphabet. For example they would say the letter then say the sound the letter makes then they say the animal that goes with it.

Digital Passport

I learned a lot of stuff when I finished Digital Passport like not to drive and text or text while doing daily  activities. We should also not share any personal information on line or anyone you don't know personally and have met face to face.you should also not take credit for stuff thats not yours.

Enviorment Article Reflection

        I think I did well by saying how the animals have gone endangered and how we can help. I think I did well on this because I listed ways animals became endangered and I did well on the other thing because I said how to help and I said why and I told people specific ways to do stuff like which plants help people.I think I also did well on Researching information. I think I did on that because I got all my information quickly. I also think I typed mine pretty quickly

        When I do another essay I think I need to work on being more organized. I think this because   most people said it was hard to understand because it was not organized so well.Some people said that they didn't understand my facts when I put them the way I did. I might want to ask them how I should fix that.

How do you think I should fix my  Environmental Article?

Endangered Animals By: Emma Yagolnitser

     Imagine this someone us eating a bar on the sidewalk then when they are done the just throw it on the ground. The next day they are running on the beach and they see their wrapper, but instead a fish has eaten it and now it is dead.

      There are many endangered animals. Bobcat’s food is slowly disappearing and on top of that they are also being hunted. Pocket Gophers are very rare in North America. Berg says “Ranchers say there are more pocket gopher than the government sees. Most of those animals are endangered because of pollution in the woods.

     There are many causes for endangerment. Most animals became endangered because of the chemicals in the streams that they drink from.  A lot of fish become endangered because of the soap and oil in their body of water.  Some fish are endangered because they taste good like salmon. Some fish are endangered because we are fishing in a certain way like dynamite fishing.

    How can we help the endangered animals? If people use car washes instead of their driveway then the soap goes into somewhere where it won’t flow into the ocean. We can also stop using chemicals for our yards because it will flow to the ocean.  If we plant certain plants like Aloe, Gerber Daisy, and Snake plant that help the environment then there will be less pollution in people’s yard. People need to stop putting stuff on the street it flows to the nearest body of water. National Wildlife Federation (NWF) helped cut down on mercury pollution. They also brought Wild Bison back to their home. They also eliminated conflict between domestic and wild Bighorn sheep. NWF has successfully blocked three of six terminals.

    There is still hope in helping these animals. We can solve these problems by picking up litter and pet waste. Cattle men association says “the number of wolves overall should be capped.” Biologists say “Pygmy rabbits are breeding for the first time!” That should be normal for them to breed wherever they want.

Divergent

I am reading Divergent By: Veronica Roth. The genre is dystopia. I would call this book Rebellion because the main theme of dauntless is rebellion and rebellion is a big part in divergent I think it should be called that because *SPOILER ALERT*  Beatrice rebells against her family by choosing a different faction.

I asked myself why they even have to choose a faction can't they just stay in their first faction? I also made a predictions that she would not stay with her family because she seemed like a independent girl and she was very worried and she might mess up and leave her family because before she said if it were up to her she would stay in her seat and just wait the whole time and not take the test.

My partner in the eco column unit was beloria. We made a eco column and it had a terrarium and an aquarium and in between we had a connecter tube.I think it went very well we had a lot of fun. We learned alot about ecosystems and we had to catch our own bugs which means we had to go outside it was really cold and we ha to dig around and find bugs when i found my slug it looked like a snake.

I learned that in ecosystems all the animals or organisms rely on each other and without one alot of the other ones die. Pollution is very bad for the ecosystem some types of pollution is like animal waste, trash that people leave or dump on the street, oil spills, soap from cars that you wash in your driveway. These are all very bad for the ecosystem but we can all make a difference if we try. We also learned about PH levels too high of a PH  level can be bad but too low of a PH level can also bad.

An ecosystem is a place where a lot of organisms live. Making a ecocolumn helped me understand because I saw how all the organisms relied on each other and i saw how important it was for them to get  all the sunshine they needed and water they needed.Our eco column 

book challenge

I have read 28 out of 30 books so far. We have this thing were we have to read thirty books by the end of the year. I like to read more fantasy. I don't like historical fiction.A lot of people have made 30 books already or are very close!

My favorite book has been Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins. It is a sequel to The Hunger Games.
I like this book because It is a  really good book. the author is really good at keeping the suspense up and she is good at making things interesting. I love this book and it is really good also because I like fantasy and this is definitely fantasy.

What We Are Doing In Class

In math we are learning about function tables they are like in and out tables but with algebraic expressions.
One side is in the other side is out and in the middle says the function rule and you need to do the problem in the middle to get the number in the right most column

it is very confusing but when you see it in real life you start to get it.

In reading I have read 25 books so far. We are doing this thing called book challenge we have to read 30 books during the school year. There is one kid who has rad like 50 books!!! We are also doing this thing where we write down the main characters  physical qualities and main personalities of the main characters. Then you write the minor characters and what there role is in the book.

In writing we are still doing our pollution essay I am doing mine on endangered animals. We are doing peer revisions it is when we pass our essays around a circle.and people say what they like and what they wish was better

Thirteen Gifts

I am currently reading Thirteen gifts By Wendy Mass. A Really powerful part is when Tara is trying to convince her parents that they should take her with them on the vacation. It was obvious that she was going to do any thing to go on the trip with them and that she was very nervous to stay with her aunt. Tara says "I would have done any thing to go with them last I was with my Aunt, Emily (her daughter) ate a whole glue stick hopefully she was not as stupid now" This scene helps me understand how many kids get nervous or don't want to go away from their parents or don't want to stay with relatives.

As I was reading the part where Tara boards the train to go from her parents I felt bad for Tara. When I read the part Where the instructor asked if she was traveling on her own free will she looked at her mom and she nodded, I felt really bad for her because she knew she was only traveling because her parents were making her. I can't even imagine having my parents making me board a train away from them, And it made me feel bad for Tara.

How would you feel if your parents made you board a train away from them? 

What We Are Doing in Class

In math we are learning about algebraic expressions. For example, we do things like if a equals 5 and b equals 9 what  is the answer to 5a which would be 25 because when you put a number next to a variable it is multiplication. We are also learning about adding algebraic expressions. It is the same thing but you put a plus sign instead of putting it next to each other.

We learned about plot diagrams. A plot diagram is a diagram basically describes a book. It has the characters settings and the climax which is what the main idea is or like the action point. It  has the falling action which is like what happens after the climax like when the action dies down. It has the rising action which is the stuff that leads up to the climax. Last but not least the resolution it is what happened at the end of the book  it is like the closing.

In writing we are writing a expository essay on pollution we are writing our lead and thesis. last week we made drafts of our topic sentences and details. My essay is about endangered animals it is really coming along.  Alot of us are doing it on pollution in Puget Sound.

Catching Fire

I am reading Catching fire by Suzanne Collins.  It is a sequel to the Hunger Games. It is a book about a boy and a girl who are picked from one of the 12 districts. Along with the other 22 girls and boys from the other 11 districts they are on their own to fight to the death. Katniss is the girl from district 12 who gets picked for the 74th annual hunger games. In this sequel she goes on tour and a month after that she finds out she has to compete in the Hunger Games again. It is the Quarter Quell and she has to compete against the other victors from the other districts. Read the book to find out what happens!

What would you do if you were Katniss?

First Trimester

I really enjoyed learning how do long division with remainders because I already learned it and I needed a little help with it and it was really easy for me. I think I am good at writing and reading because I am good at writing a reading response and i like to wonder a lot while I am reading.I am also good at writing because I like to write a lot and i am trying to improve on my penmanship.

I have not enjoyed needing your snack out before tefillah because if I forget and I am starving I can't eat.  
I am not so good at converting decimals into fractions because it is just really annoying and confusing to me.

have you ever felt that way with a type of math?if so which kind?

Our Eco-columns

Our class made Eco-columns.
My Eco-columns has changed because our Elodea have started to die ever since we got our snails. I think this is happening because the snails may have eaten the Elodea. everything in our Terrarium has died I think the slug has trapped the animals trapped as ln between the soil and the slime so it can not breath. Our slug has escaped somehow from one said of the plastic (our terrarium) to the other side (underneath the terrarium). Our Fish has  also died and is laying at the bottom of our aquarium.

I think the seeds/grass rely on the soil to live. For example, The plants need the nutrients in the soil to live. The snails need the gravel to have a surface. The fish needs the water to live. For example, The fish can't breath out of water so it needs the water. The plants need the fish because the fish breath out carbon dioxide and the plants breathe in carbon dioxide. The fish need the plants because the plants breathe out oxygen and the fish breathe in oxygen.

Our Trip to the Aquarium

We went on a really cool trip to the Aquarium. My favorite part was the anemone. they were really sticky.
One of the anemone almost ate my finger it was called the fish eating anemone. Most anemones would sting you if you were a fish but since we have a lot of skin on our fingers you can not sting yourself  like that.
The only fish that does not get stung is the clown fish they are immune to anemone.

There were also sea urchins the cool part is that if you put your finger on one of their spikes they hug you.
They are really cool to touch but if you are not careful it will hurt when you touch the actual spike.some people were scared to touch it but after they got over their fear they thought it was really fun.

The Most Important Part of OOMM

We just finished reading Out of My Mind by Sharon Draper.
I think the most important part of out of my mind is that everyone is different and you have to deal with it so you just have to treat everyone how you want to be treated and nobody should feel bad about being different.you just have to deal with it make the best of it.

Another important part is that sometimes friends are not your friend and they can hurt you alot I think this because when rose didn't call her she got really upset. Rose also hurt melody when she looked like she was embarrassed to be spending time with melody because she was disabled. She said she had a good time but melody doubted it.but Catherine was almost always true to melody she always stuck to melody's side.

How would you  feel if you had a friend that wasn't really your friend?

Melody,Ollie and The Fish in the Aquarium

I think melody learned that rose is not always truthful but if she was her true friend she would always be by her side and she was. she also learned that friends are always nice to you unlike Claire and molly.

I think melody is like ollie because she can't really leave or move to far and neither can ollie.
for example, she says "maybe ollie was bored of the sane bowl the same log and the same sculpture" and she also said " I had never gone more then a couple miles away from my house"

I think ollie is like the fish in the aquarium because they are both in the same bowl everyday and they are stuck together with the same fish in the same tank. they are also like him because they can't move away from the same fish and like melody they have never gone away from their bowl/tank.

Melody is like the fish because she has not left her house for a while and the fish have never left their tank/bowl. also the fish can't talk to people and the are kind of stuck or trapped.

Converting Decimals Into Fractions

We are converting decimals into fractions. Basically you just have to find a common factor and divide or multiply. For example, if you are converting 12/25 you find  the common factor which is 4  and multiply by 4 so 25 x 4 equals 100 and 12 x 4 equals 48 so it would be 48/100

Expanded Form

Expanded form is the expanded form of a number. For example, if we use the number 12,963 the expanded form would be 10000 +2000+900+60+3=12963. so you basically have to list all of the place values one by one.

Melody's Pet Fish, Ollie

My class is reading  Out of My Mind By Sharon M Draper.

   Ollie was a very significant fish he was a very cool fish and melody could really connect with him. They were both kind of stuck "swimming in the same direction in the same world". She says it always looked like he was trying to say something because of how he moved his mouth .he always lived in a very small world/bowl and was kind of trapped. 

  Melody is a lot like Ollie because they are both somewhat tapped somewhere and have never gone more than a couple miles away from their home.  Melody and Ollie both wanted to escape so Ollie did.  Melody said that Ollie looked like he was trying to talk all the time and so was she.  She says" maybe he was tired of the same bowl the same log maybe he couldn't stand it"

Melody was depressed but angry at the same time because she says "mom was angry and so was I. I didn't want her to see me cry. She left me with my music and an empty spot on the table .the colors had vanished". She was kind of blaming her mom by saying if she hadn't been so slow he might have made it.


How do you think melody will find her voice?

Powers of 10

We have been working on powers or ten.  It has been a little hard with some people but most of us got it.

Basically you have to move the decimal to the right or left depending on if you are multiplying or dividing.  If you are dividing you move the decimal to the left.  If you are multiplying you move the decimal to the right.  For example, If you are multiplying .23 by 1000 you move the decimal three times to the right because there are three zeros in one thousand and you are multiplying.
