Class Constitution

The 5th graders wrote their own expectations for this coming year.  We are calling it the "Class Constitution."  I am posting a page on the side titled "Class Constitution," but will also include the text here.

The students collaborated in three different lessons to come up with a satisfactory constitution.  Here they are hard at work:

Here is the finished product:

We areRESPECTFUL.
We SLANT.
We say please and thank you.
We treat others the way we would want to be treated.
We provide a quiet place for others to think and work.
We are READY.
We are organized.
We are on task and paying attention.
We areRESPONSIBLE.
We take things out and put things away neatly (including at recess).
We stay focused when someone else is talking.
We speak positively, instead of complaining
We are CARING.
We help each other solve problems.
We speak kindly.
We cheer each other up.
We are CURIOUS.
We ask questions with question words.
We research answers.
We are ENTHUSIASTIC.
We have fun.
We can be loud at recess.
We can also be loud if we’re thinking of ideas in groups.
We are ready for anything!

Which part of our constitution do you think is the most important and why?

What part of our constitution will be difficult to follow and why?

Is there anything you think should be added to the constitution?  If so, what?

Rosh Hashana Baking Day

Fifth graders did some serious baking and cooking for Rosh Hashanan. We made apple crisp and couscous with sweet additions. We are also working towards every student knowing the Hebrew for the ingredients of our dishes before Yom Kippur. Special thanks to Regina, Giselle, and Moshe for volunteering on baking day.
