Hebrew Book Reports

Hebrew Book Report

In Hebrew class at school we are reading books that at the end they have a moral. For example, in one of the stories there is a rabbit and a turtle. At the beginning of the story every other animal besides the turtle says that the rabbit is the fastest animal in the world, so the rabbit and the turtle raced. In the middle of the story the rabbit sees the turtle is really slow and is not even close to the end. The rabbit chooses to take a little rest break. At the end of the story the rabbit wakes up but the turtle already won the race. So the moral of the story is not to say something before you have done it.

After we read a book we have to write a book report on the book that you read. So let’s say that I read the book that I just talked about. So what you have to do is write the title of the book than write the author and illustrator.  After that you have to write however many pages there are in the book then write however many characters there are. Then like I did telling the story to you, you have to write what happened in the beginning middle and end of the book. After that you draw a picture from any part of the book. We are so excited to be strong Hebrew readers.

SHA Book Fair

Have you ever been to a book fair? Well if you haven’t I’ll tell you. A book fair is a place where you can buy books. It is like a mini store that sells books and also there are some book fairs that don’t just sell books some also sell toys like pencils, note books, book marks and all these other things. The books are really awesome. For example, there are books about the NFL (football), MLB (baseball) and the NBA (basketball). There are also more books more for kids. For example, FLY Guy books and other things like that.

There is a new Diary of a Wimpy kid book out and everyone was going for that book that the school had to get a lot of books for the book fair. Another book is this book that is called “Hypnotists” I got the last one so the book must have been really good.
The book fair book really is really good since you can get a lot of books and it can help you with your reading.

Book Challenge by Binyamin

I have read 29/30 books for the 5th grade yearly book challenge. I keep on reading and I am really enjoying it. I have read books for every genre and all I have left is to read one more genre. Sometimes I think that I don’t like a genre, but when I read one I realize that they are not as bad as I thought. For example, I once had to read a myth book as one of my genres for a book challenge in 4th grade. I thought that I would not like it but it turned out to be the opposite.
One book that I like best for this year’s book challenge is a book called theBFG (The big Friendly Giant). I liked the book a lot because it is a made up story about a girl’s life meeting a giant. The book starts off when the girl named Sophie. Sophie was looking out her window from her orphanage. The BFG is a friendly giant and was giving lovely dreams to the people of her town (but of course she did not know that. The BFG takes her some ware and the BFG and Sophie get to know each other. They become friends and they work together to stop other giants from terrorizing kids.

1st Trimester

General Studies

In general studies I am enjoying all the things that we do. For example, I like how we get to go on the computers and do things like make blog posts and other things like that. I right now have made 8 blog posts (and if you count this one that = 9 blog posts) and I am really enjoying making them. I think that I am good at the reading part in class because there is a book challenge and you have to read 30 books in the school year and different genre and I only need to read one more book and that book is a traditional literature book.

I don’t really know what I really don’t enjoy because I really like everything that we are doing in class. Although I think that I need to work on my math a little bit because I know the things that we are learning in class but I still need to work on some of the things that we are learning in class but otherwise I love school.

How many books have you read so far this year?

What do you like best about school so far?

Chanukah

Chanukah and my Miracles

Beating the Syrian-Greeks wow! What a miracle, the miracle was that since the Jews were way fewer than the Greeks and we beat them that was really crazy since the Greeks were a big army. The Jews got an army and G-d to help them beat the Syrian-Greeks. The second miracle was when the Jews only had enough olive oil to light the Menorah for one day, but G-d made a miracle and the Menorah'slight lasted for eight days instead of one.

Things that seem like miracles to me are like having my family and if I did not have a family I might not have been here, and wouldn't even have made this post. Good thing I am here. Another miracle is that I am healthy or I could not have even been able to write this. I really love Chanukah and I am grateful for my miracles.

What is a miracle that happened to you?

Do you think the miracles of Chanukah are really miracles?

Ramona the Pest by Beverly Cleary

When Ramona first got into Kindergarten she was really nervous. When she got to the class room she liked the teacher Miss Binney. Ramona wished that Miss Binney would like her the best. Ramona wished she could have hair like susan’s since Susan had curly hair, she wished that she could catch someone in her class while running around in circles so she could kiss him, although Ramona wished that she could be like her older sister Beezus who learned a lot in school and Ramona wanted to too.
When Miss Binney got sick Ramona did not like the substitute Mrs. Wilcox. Ramona hid behind a trash can and hoped that no one would see her. A few minutes’ latter two boys saw Ramona and went to get her sister. Sooner or later Ramona was face to face with her sister Beezus. Beezus was tough and told Ramona to get out of her hiding place or she would tell Mrs. Quimby (their mom). Anyhow Beezus took her to the principle and the princible took Ramona to her class.
I can relate to Ramona in a small way. Like sometimes I don’t want to go to school, or I want something that someone else has. And for Ramona she probably wishes that she can be in the 5th grade like me.

Have you ever been nervous about going to school?
Have you ever wanted something someone else had?

Ecocolumns

The fifth graders have been making ecocolumns in groups of two. An ecoclumn is something that has an aquarium on the bottom and a terrarium on top. In a aquarium every group got two snails. In my ecocolumn group, after a while one snail died so than we only had one snail. When one of my partners and my snail died then some of the elodea which is a plant inside the aquarium started d to die two. When both snails died then most of the elodea was mostly dead. Since the elodea needs CO2 and they get it from the snails and since the snails need CO which from the plants, then when one thing dies the other will also die. Latter on we got fish and that could help since they also produce CO for the plants just like the snails.

A terrarium is the land part of the ecocolumn which is on top. My partner and I are growing grass and everyone has at least has one animal which is a cricket. My partner and I have a cricket, two slugs, one potato bug, one ladybug, worms and something else which looks like eggs. The soil and grass giver them shelter and the help the terrarium grow.

Biotic things and abiotic things rely on each other. For example, in the aquarium the gravel is where some sea creatures can sleep. The water is a home to the sea creatures. In the water plants can grow and water is suppose to help plants grow. If there is no water then there will be no sea creatures, all the plants will die. Biotic and abiotic things rely on each other.

Digital Passport

I think that Digital Passport is really fun and can teach you things by playing games. I know this because, when you go on the computer you have to be careful. For example, you should not talk on the phone when you are walking outside. Another example, you should not talk on the phone and do something else at the same time.  Lastly, you should not talk badly to someone on the computer since other people could find out and people may not be your friend anymore.

When you are walking outside you should not use your phone or … Oh No!  You fell in a hole. You could get hurt if you are using your phone and you fall down in a deep pit. For example, you can linger many of your bones.

You should not do to things at once when you are talking on your phone. For example, if you are coking something while talking on the phone something might get on fire and burn down your house … Oh NO!  Your house is on fire. Never do to things at once or something could go wrong even though you do not realize it.

You should never talk badly to someone when you are on the internet. For example, something bad can happen like someone will not be your friend anymore. In Digital Passport there was this video about this girl who had a fight on the internet with her friend. People found out and they said mean things to them on the internet and more and more people knew about this and then one of the girls told her parents and it got better. If you tell your parents about that then they can take care of it. You should never talk badly to someone on the internet but if you do tell your parents fast.

Have you ever gone on to Digital Passport ?

Have you ever talked on a phone and done something else at the same time?

5th Grade Trip to the Seattle Aquarium

We the fifth Graders went to the Seattle Aquarium. At the aquarium we first got to see the big tank with a lot of fish in the tank. Next we got to go to the place in the aquarium where you get to touch some sea creatures. There you can touch sea anemones sea cucumbers and some really awesome starfish.

After we went to the touching areas this person took us to this classroom where there were some more sea creatures. One of the sea creatures was a sea cucumber. If you seen a sea cucumber you can see spikes on them, but the spikes are just for protection and to scare away enemies. The sea cucumber’s spikes are not pointy. They are soft and squishy and they are different colors.

We also saw an animal called a moon snail. You might think this is crazy but Moon snails have the power to drill through clams with their radula. They are able to make a perfect holes inside a clam. Their body is really squishy and big and their shell is really small and hard.

Latter we went to see a seal that was trained. There was a trainer that was going to feed the seal. The seal was able to clime rocks to get the food from the trainer. The seal was able to do some awesome things. For example, it was able to lift up his flipper (both flippers) and was even able to climb down the rocks to get back in the water.

The trip was awesome and everyone can’t wait to go back soon.

SHA Cornmaze

The SHA corn maze was outstanding! For example, the corn maze was in the shape of Washington and you have to go through the maze. While you in the corn maze there are bridges that you have to go across, there are also monuments to show where you are. For example, the space needle, there is also a mini figure of the Washington State capital in Olympia.

After the corn maze there was a duck race. The duck race had a lot of ducks.
When you saw the duck race the ducks were really fast. The way that they made the ducks race was that they put food for the duck at the finish line. The duck named Chuck won the race by about one inch. The cool thing about that was that most of the people voted for Chuck who was the winner, I voted for a white duck and it came in 2nd place.

Going back to school was fun but not so mach. Everyone was talking about the corn maze for a while but everyone probably wanted to stay. Everyone couldn't wait to come back next year.

Out of My Mind

                                                  Out of My Mind

I think that Melody is really good at making friendships. I know this because when Melody met Rose in music class she was really happy and nice to her. At the trip to the aquarium Melody was really nice friendly. To me it seems like Melody and Rose are best friends and they probably are. When Rose and Melody where at the aquarium Clair and Molly who were really mean to everyone and made fun about the fact that Melody and Rose were at the aquarium together but that still did not do anything to harm Melody’s and Roses friendship.

I think that Ollie would have liked it beater in the aquarium When. Melody was at the aquarium there were a lot of fish and I think that Ollie would have liked it there and I think that Ollie would have fit in with all the other fish. I know this because since Ollie was behind her gold fish bowl the whole time of her life. Ollie probably would have liked to live with the other fish inside the aquarium because that way Ollie would have a lot of friends and Ollie also would have way more room to swim in.

Out of My Mind

When Melody got a pet gold fish she was really happy, Melody named her gold fish Ollie. Ollie was really special to Melody, but when Ollie jumped out of the fish bowl Ollie died Melody was really upset. When Melody’s mom got upstairs she yelled at Melody but Melody couldn't explained what had happened. Nobody could have replaced Ollie but when her dad came home he brought her a dog that she named Butterscotch, Melody was grateful.

I think that Melody and Ollie are about the same.  For example, Melody and Ollie can’t talk, they can’t go to a lot of places, but most of all they both can’t explain anything. I can tell that Melody does not want to be treated like she is so young and is a baby, and for Ollie she does not want to be behind the glass every seconded of her life.

I think that Melody feels bad about Ollie. The reason for this is at when Ollie was alive she was really happy because she never had a pet before, but when Ollie died she was really upset and annoyed. The reason for this is, that before Ollie died she was screaming and kicking but when Melody’s mom came upstairs Melody’s mom yelled at her because when Melody knocked down the fish bowl trying to get her wet so she can get Ollie wet, otherwise Ollie would die, but also when Melody’s mom came upstairs she yelled at Melody for making a mess and for killing Ollie and she said, “Why did you take Ollie out of his tank you know she can’t live without water”. Melody probably felt sad and also wishing she could tell her mom the whole story.

Do you ever get treated badly?
Did you ever have a pet but your pet died?
How would you feel if you were Melody?

What 5th Graders are Doing in Math

The 5th graders are working on decimals. For example, we learned that when we are multiplying decimals your answer gets bigger, and when you are dividing decimals your answer gets smaller. Every zero in the number you have to move the decimals over how ever many numbers there are zeros. For example, when you are multiplying 4.04 x 100 since there are two zeros in 100 you move the decimals over to the right two times, so your answer will be 404. , and when you are dividing your answer will get smaller. For example, 88 divided by 1,000 since you are dividing and there are three zeros you move the decimal over to the left  three times your answer will be .088.  And that is how you multiply and divide decimals.

***Now do you know how to multiply and divide decimals? If so what is 908 divided by 100.***
