Our class read Out of My Mind by Sharen Draper.
I think
that Melody and Ollie are connected. Because Ollie may be able to move but is
not able to express his feelings. Also Melody is trapped in a world that if she
is “upset” she will have a “tornado explosion.” I think that when Ollie jumped
out of the bowl maybe he had a “tornado explosion.”
Ollies
life mirrored Melody because he just keeps “going around in a circle”, kind of
like how Melodys life keeps going around in a circle. When Melody got Ollie I
think maybe it was meant to be. Like Maybe Ollie saw Melody and thought she is probably
going to win me.
Would you rather be able to talk but not control your feelings, or be able to talk but control your feelings and why?
Wonderful explanation. It is important to be able to talk and control your feelings in all areas of your life.
ReplyDeleteDear Shoshana,
ReplyDeleteI loved your reference to the tornado explosion! Until you brought that up, I had never thought of it that way. I can really tell you are thinking deeply about this story.
And, I don't know the answer to your question! I think both would be equally difficult for different reasons. Very thought-provoking question!

Dear Shoshana,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your post on how Ollie and Melody were connected, and about Ollie's feelings.
Like you said, I think how Ollie and Melody are similar is that they are both in their little world. They can't communicate with others and they both can't really express their feelings.
I think why Ollie just decided to jump out of it's fish bowl is because Ollie was out of it's mind. Why I'm saying out of it's mind is because maybe Ollie was bored swimming in circles for hours so instead he wanted to see more of what's out there. Like how Melody has to go through the same routine everyday, she wants to see how the "normal" kids do things.
I would rather talk and be able to express my feelings because you'll need to do those things later in your life. Obviously you'll have to communicate to people. And you'll probably express your feelings to tell others what's happening and what kind of person you are in a way.
What was your favorite part of the book, why?
