Ollie the Fish

What I think is significant about the story of Ollie [Melody’s pet fish]. Is that Melody said, “I feel worse for Ollie than I feel about me.” So I started to think why Melody said that and I came up with a couple ideas for example, Ollie just swims in the same old bowl all day every day with no family and it can’t talk.

I think Ollie’s life mirrors on Melody’s. Because they both can’t talk for example, Melody said “it looks like Ollie is trying to talk.” And I had a fish so I know they can’t talk. And Melody is stuck in her wheelchair and Ollie is stuck in it's bowl.

How I think Melody felt when she couldn't tell her mom how Ollie died was mad. Because her mom started yell at her and she doesn't even know what happened. I know that would get mad if my mom did that to me.

How would feel if your mom yelled at you if she didn't even know the story of what happened?

How would you feel if you couldn't talk?

  1. Dear Judah,

I'm glad you brought up the quote about Melody feeling worse about Ollie than she did about herself. I also wondered why she would say that! I like that you brought up that Ollie didn't have any family and he was all alone. Although Melody's life is hard, at least she has family to love her.

Thanks for giving me something new to think about!
