I agree that the sweet in the Littmus lozenge are mixed with the sad. Because when all the people eat it they all felt sad. Also Miss Franny compares life to littmus lozenge like when people ate it they felt sad and happy at the same time. like when you eat candy thats sweet and when you lose a spelling bee is the sad part.
The part in the littmus lozenge that makes you sad is a secret ingredient. Know one knows what the ingredient is but Miss Franny knows it. In the ingredient is some sadness stuff people taste . Also some happyness stuff in it too that people taste.
